Barking Sycamores Remembers Maya Angelou (1928-2014)

You, created only a little lower than
The angels, have crouched too long in
The bruising darkness
Have lain too long
Face down in ignorance.

–Excerpt from “On the Pulse of the Morning”

Barking Sycamores remembers Maya Angelou: poet, artist, teacher, and activist. She crossed through the veil on May 28, 2014. She was 86 years old.

Dr. Angelou was the inspiration for many a poet, artist, activist, and in general, many of us as human beings. We at Barking Sycamores especially appreciate her for her artistry in language as well as her emphasis on social justice. She will be missed and remembered dearly.

May her light continue to shine for generations to come.

“Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”
–Dr. Angelou’s last tweet
